National Philanthropy Day is about honoring those who give
and make giving possible.
Yet what is it that nonprofit fundraisers are really trying to accomplish with philanthropy? Receiving a contribution of any size is successful in itself, yet there is so much more to the story, specifically: how does a donation make positive change in our communities? Yet that’s not necessarily an easy connection or case to make.
Crystal Taylor, Founder and Executive Director at Get Happy and CEO and Lead Curator at The Underground Collective in Durham, will inspire us to think differently about the impact donors and fundraisers make. Her presentation will ask us to consider:
- If you see a problem, find a solution. How do we create change for the world around us?
- Being uncomfortable is okay. How do we step outside of our comfort zone and challenge ourselves to keep supporting others in different ways?
- Reaching back. Why reaching back is critical for those who are in need that you don’t see.
Crystal works tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for people of color by advocating for health and wellness initiatives, innovative education, and community-driven engagement. Her dedication to empowering communities and addressing social issues has earned her widespread recognition and admiration. Born and raised in Clinton, NC, Crystal is a 4th generation farmer and a co-founder of The Black Farmers Market and Black August in the Park. She is a 2024 recipient of the Durham Parks and Recreation Homegrown Hero Award.
Crystal promises an energetic and thought-provoking presentation for everyone. Join us as Crystal helps us celebrate philanthropy in the Triangle on November 15.
