Position Summary
The Assistant Dean of Development will be responsible for leading a team of major gift fundraisers; cultivating and soliciting major gifts over $100,000 through building relationships with Kenan-Flagler’s key donors and many new prospects; and helping chart the school’s path to success in its next campaign. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Advancement and serves as a member of the school’s Advancement Leadership Team.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The Assistant Dean will be an accomplished fundraising professional and leader with a proven track record of success, with a minimum of seven years of major gift fundraising experience. The Assistant Dean will also bring a proven track record of leading frontline fundraisers. Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal skills. Detail-oriented, ability to meet multiple deadlines, excellent organizational skills, and computer skills. Ability to work independently, meet ambitious goals and interact effectively with alumni, friends, faculty, and staff in a public research university. Experience working with and inspiring the confidence of multiple constituencies, including advancement staff, volunteers, top-level donors and prospects, and administrative officials. Regular business travel and periodic /evening weekend work is required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Ideal candidates will have a minimum of ten years of major gift fundraising experience and five years in direct ask solicitations at the $100,000 level and above.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
