CapDev conducted a first-of-its-kind statewide survey of nonprofits and funders in 2024 and has summarized its key findings in the Compass Report, released at the annual NC Center for Nonprofits Conference. CapDev is now sharing key takeaways from the report with the nonprofit sector as a spark to engage deepened communications and to ignite opportunities.

Clare Jordan, Vice President, Capital Development Services
In her 18 years with CapDev, Clare’s role has grown to include the primary responsibility
for the company’s business development as well as philanthropic research and trend tracking to enhance understanding of the social sector among our clients and the nonprofits throughout our region. Clare has given hundreds of presentations, sharing expertise in teaching philanthropy. Having held positions in nonprofit management since the early 1990s, she has served in staff and volunteer roles in marketing and development with several nonprofits and provided consulting services to elevate the work of nonprofits for over 30 years. Her introduction to the nonprofit sector began as a student at North Carolina State University when she founded the Campus Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. A Winston-Salem native, Clare is a graduate of N.C. State University and is an avid volunteer, including serving as Chair of N.C. State University’s Institute for Nonprofits Advisory Board; Chair of UNC School of the Arts Board of Visitors; Chair of Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship at N.C. State University; and a current board member of N.C. State University’s College of Humanities & Social Sciences; as well as service on local boards including Habitat for Humanity, Crisis Control Ministries, Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community, YMCA Camp Hanes, AFP Triad Chapter, the Vestry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and as an ordained Elder at First Presbyterian Church, Hickory. Clare was named to the Triad Business Journal’s “40 Leaders Under 40” in 2008 and was awarded Distinguished Alumna of the Year for the College of Humanities at NC State University in 2021.
Stephanie Flores de Valgaz, Marketing Manager, Capital Development Services
Stephanie is from Winston-Salem and a UNC-Chapel Hill alumna. Before joining CapDev, she spent a decade honing the principles of audience engagement as an educator and facilitator. Stephanie has presented topics including organizational leadership and recruitment and retention. She also serves on several nonprofit boards including the Novant Health Foundation, and as board president of Bookmarks.
